The The Walrus Magazine is an independent magazine that prides itself on being “Canada’s Conversation”. As a registered charity, they rely on donations as well as sponsored partner content to create their publication. We assisted with ensuring the sponsored partner content fits seamlessly into the magazine with our editorial design expertise, and thoughtful art direction.

While each supplement was unique, my general design approach remained the same. I started by researching the partner, gathering information about their corporate branding to find ways to incorporate that into the layout whether it be through colour or typography. Depending on the subject matter, I would conceptualize and provide art direction for the accompanying visuals. This might include liaising with an illustrator, sourcing photography or personally creating a custom photo-illustration. Finally, I ensured that each supplement was beautifully typeset, pre-flighted and ready for press. I was also responsible for preparing supplements to be included on The Walrus website, designing and uploading content through Wordpress.

An example of a fully digital supplement that I designed and art directed can be found here.
